Web Site Design and promotion Tips!
Search engine submission
Before you submit your web site to search
engines you should:-
-
Ensure it is
optimised fully
-
Check which search
engines you are listed on and where you rank for your
preferred phrases.
You can do this by visiting the major search engines
and entering your full URL (Domain Name i.e. www.yourname.co.uk)
in the search box and clicking search. If you are
listed you should be ranked at number 1. If so, enter
your chosen search phrase and check the ranking. To
attract visitors using this phrase you should be ranked
at in least the top 50 or first 2 pages.
-
If you are listed but you don't rank
as high as you would like you should fine tune the
page, optimising it for the phrase you wish, prior
to submitting to the search engines.
It is no good simply re-submitting the same page or
web site, without making changes, as it will not increase
the ranking!
-
Before making
changes to your page, check your tracking system to
make sure you are not receiving hits to this page
using a different phrase, if you are and you change
it then submit, you may well lose these visits!
-
Once you are happy with the optimisation
you can submit to as many search engines as you like.
-
Remember! Major search engines such
as Google do not require submission. If your web
site is linked to from a web site already in their
index, such as ourweddingmemories, they will find
your web site in time.
-
Submission can be carried out manually
by visiting the submission page of each individual
engine.
-
You can also purchase software that
automatically submits to many search engines, although
some engines, Altavista being one, do not support
automatic submission.
-
There are also many free submission
services which profess to submit to hundreds of
search engines and directories automatically. Unfortunately,
you should beware of these as many simply use it
to obtain e-mail addresses for marketing purposes.
-
Some services guarantee
a top ranking for given key phrases in a set number
of search engines.
Again beware of these as there is no guarantee with
the top free submission search engines.
-
Other services
offer, for a set monthly fee, to re-submit your web
site over and over again.
Unless you make regular changes to the optimisation
or content of a page, re-submission will not improve
your ranking. If you wish to keep resubmitting try
a different page each time. As
mentioned Google will find your site without submission
and any changes will be indexed on the next crawl
so there is no need to keep re-submitting!
-
If you want us
to assess your site for search engine optimisation,
make suggestions on alterations which should be made
and check the ranking on search engines, please submit
the form with
your details, including your web site address.
