One question plagues young couples
more than any other. It's not, 'What does the future
hold?' or, 'Does my bum look big in this?' although
these are both valid and important questions. The biggest
question faced by young couples today is, in fact, 'What
food does everyone serve at their wedding?'
Well, this obviously depends on where
in the world the wedding is taking place. A Greek wedding,
for instance, would involve a great deal of red meat,
particularly lamb. Christos, from Athens, explains:
'For my wedding, my aunt cooked two whole lambs, which
were then shared between the whole extended family.
It was such a huge event and was probably the happiest
day of my life. The lamb was simply delicious - so rich
and tender.'

Veronica, from Marlborough, wouldn't have enjoyed
so much red meat
at her party. 'I insisted on Scottish
Wild Salmon at my wedding. My husband Crispin was keen on getting
some roasted
peppered salmon, but it is so important that the union of our
two souls should get off on the right track - anything other than
Scottish smoked salmon would have been unimaginable. That's the
thing about Crispin, while I do love him dearly, we don't always
see eye to eye on food.'

Jerome, from Winchester, married his wife Miranda
in 2003. Their wedding featured 'caviar,
champagne and more champagne. Miranda wanted us to save money on
the reception so that we could have a longer honeymoon, but I wouldn't
hear of it. My family are seafood enthusiasts and our wedding simply
had to reflect this. We bought great quantities of Beluga
caviar and were not disappointed. All of our friends said it
was simply the finest wedding they'd ever been to.'
Megan, from Cumbria, is planning on marrying her
fiancé Barry next summer. She has already decided on dinner
for the event: 'I am always one to follow trends, and saw that all
kinds of celebs are choosing smoked fish as the key dish in their
reception dinner. If the A-list want to serve smoked
salmon, then who am I to argue?'
So, it would seem, popular- wedding
fare for British couples certainly includes good quality
fish products, and this is the answer to the puzzling
question, 'What food does everyone serve at their wedding?'
